Our partnerships

The scale of our operations means that we are in a unique position to influence and promote positive practices through our partnerships with major stakeholders, including our investors, retailers, suppliers, strategic partners, industry groups, consumers and community partners, and drive sustainability outcomes beyond those achievable on our own.

Our Sustainability approach and performance is an important lever in gaining access to capital and positions us as a partner of choice, especially with those stakeholders who share similar sustainability ambitions, and demonstrates the value we bring as a leading retail property manager.

Partnering with retailers

At Vicinity, we understand that our success in creating market leading destinations, the experience we deliver for our communities and the long-term value we generate for our securityholders are deeply intertwined with our retailers’ success.

We want to be a valued partner for our retailers, understanding and delivering what’s most important to them and enabling them to be successful and sustainable at every touch point.

Our efforts focus on developing, testing and implementing innovative solutions that can support and deliver more value to our retailers, so that they can better connect with consumers and be more sustainable in their operations.

Working with our suppliers

We take a proactive approach to managing sustainability risks that are inherent in our supply chain. We also recognise that there are unique opportunities to shape better communities through our relationships with suppliers.

This year, we completed a comprehensive risk mapping of 799 key suppliers, representing 80% of our total spend, against modern slavery risk and continued the implementation of our Responsible Procurement Action Plan and delivering initiatives to ensure we are appropriately managing modern slavery and broader ESG risk in our supply chain.

Over the three years to end FY21, we have spent more than $6.2 million with social enterprises and Indigenous businesses across our managed portfolio.  Utilising such organisations to meet our procurement needs helps to create positive social and economic change for those who are often marginalised or disadvantaged in our communities.

Community partners

Vicinity's community investment program is focused on strengthening youth employment and engagement in our local communities. It forms a key part of our Sustainability strategy, and helps us shape stronger communities around our centres.

Vicinity commenced a three-year partnership with the Australian Red Cross to help us deliver this program at a corporate and centre level.

We also have various local partnerships at the centre level that aim to address specific youth-related issues and their root causes within each catchment.

Industry collaborations

Participating in collaborative industry stakeholder initiatives is an important way for us to learn, share knowledge, stay informed about latest industry trends and monitor emerging risks and opportunities for our business.

Our strategic partners

Our Sustainability approach is an important lever in gaining access to capital through our wholesale funds platform, and delivering sustainable returns for our fund investors. Our goal is to become a partner of choice, especially with those who share similar sustainability ambitions and demonstrate the value we bring as a leading retail property manager.

Throughout the year, we engage with our joint venture partners and wholesale fund investors (known as our ‘strategic partners’) to ensure that key sustainability programs are implemented at our co-owned and/or managed centres.
