Reporting and transparency

Vicinity participates in a number of investor surveys annually to communicate our sustainability approach and performance with investors and other interested stakeholders.

This year, we participated in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project) and the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB) as well as a number of other prominent surveys such as FTSE4Good Equileap, Sustainalytics, MSCI and Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS).

Vicinity continued to perform strongly in the above investor surveys as a result of having a focused Sustainability strategy that is well understood and embedded across key areas of our business, including developments, shopping centre operations and investments.

Additionally, our sustainability approach and performance is communicated to our investors and other stakeholders as part of our Annual Integrated Report, as well as our Corporate Governance Statement.

Vicinity Centres was included in CDP’s prestigious 2020 Climate A-List.

Collaboration with our strategic partners

Our Sustainability approach is key to responsibly managing the interests of our wholesale fund investors and joint venture partners (known as our ‘strategic partners’) over the long-term. It is an important lever to gain access to capital through our wholesale funds platform, and deliver sustainable returns for our fund investors. Our goal is to become a partner of choice, especially with those who share similar sustainability ambitions and demonstrate the value we bring as a leading retail property manager.

Throughout the year, we engage with our strategic partners to ensure that key programs under our Sustainability Strategy and other joint sustainability initiatives are implemented at our co-owned and/or managed centres.

We provide regular reports our environmental, social and governance policies, practices and performance to our wholesale fund investors and joint venture partners. We also provide reporting on corporate and asset level performance, normally on a quarterly basis but depending on requirements, sometimes as frequently as monthly.

Additionally, we engage our strategic partners through materiality reviews which we conduct every two years to understand their views on material long-term ESG issues for Vicinity and how we can respond to mutual issues of interest for our respective organisations.
