Our people and culture

For a business like ours, attracting and retaining talent and ensuring our people are highly engaged team members are integral to our success.

We want our people to enjoy working in a dynamic business which offers rewarding careers, opportunities for learning and development, and assists them to grow and succeed both professionally and personally.

Our goal is to create a great place to work and support a highly engaged team that is passionate and inspired. Our people and culture approach focuses on four strategic pillars:

  • defining and nurturing our culture and values
  • developing talent and capability,
  • energising and engaging our people, and
  • shaping our organisation.

Since the formation of Vicinity two years ago, we have seen a great shift in the workplace culture at Vicinity.

Driven by a new set of values, an agile and real-time working culture, flexible working arrangements and a dress-for-your day policy, our team members have embraced new ways of working and thinking.

Our values

During FY17 we established a new set of values that give our people the freedom and agility to think different, dream big, collaborate and work towards our vision of reimagining destinations of the future.

Our people

We continue to shape our organisation to ensure we are well placed to respond to an evolving retail landscape.

To support our Group strategic focus of delivering a great experience to our consumers and retailers, we focused on building our data and insights capabilities to drive better development, leasing and operational decisions.

As a result we hired over 270 new people into Vicinity during FY17, primarily in the areas of digital, data analytics, development and leasing. In addition, we had a relatively high employee turnover rate of 24% in FY17 as a result of divesting interests in ten assets during the year.
