Health and wellbeing

Health and wellbeing continued to be a major focus for Vicinity in FY18. Vicinity’s wellbeing program supports our team members to achieve better work-life balance outcomes and lead happy healthy lives.

The program covers a number of aspects important to overall health and wellbeing, and focuses specifically on five elements – mental health, physical health, nutrition, financial health and physical activity. Vicinity offers a range of corporate discounts and services to our people across these five focus areas. As part of the program, we have implemented comprehensive health checks for all executives and senior leaders, and offer free services such as skin checks, flu vaccinations, mental health seminars and corporate massages to all employees.

During FY18, we introduced Vicinity Care Corporate, a new program which aims to support the various personal caring needs of our team members and their families, depending on age or stage of life they are in, and helping them to navigate life’s shifting circumstances. The program provides team members with access to a parental leave support program and comprehensive online resources that range from childcare and emergency care, teenage care and support, senior and retirement care, including assistance in sourcing and securing appropriate care.

A number of other company benefits additionally support our wellbeing program, such as flexible working arrangements and a variety of leave options to help employees balance personal and professional responsibilities.

These include formal and informal flexible working arrangements, paid parental leave, personal or carers leave, study leave, volunteer leave and a complementary day off on their birthday.

Vicinity also offers a confidential employee assistance program free of charge to all employees and their immediate families to help them with work related and personal issues at their own discretion.

Case study: Wellbeing at our national office

In December 2016, Vicinity moved our two Melbourne offices into a single national office at Tower One, Chadstone.

The building received a 5 Star Green Star Design/As Built rating in 2017. The the office fit out – OneWorkplace – was awarded a 5 Star Green Star Interiors v1.1 certified rating in June 2018, and was designed to promote collaboration, employee engagement and health and wellbeing.

The office space includes plenty of greenery and natural light – a factor that enhances employee productivity, and all work stations are located within three meters of an external window.

The entire office is fitted with sit-to-stand ergonomic work stations, collaborative work places and a large break out area, where our people can collaborate, socialise and work more effectively.

An internal stairway connecting all Vicinity floors, high quality end of trip facilities, a wellness room and an innovation garage fitted with a table tennis table promotes both physical and mental wellbeing.
